The Punjab food minister has said that Wheat Procurement Policy 2016-17 to be prepared in the light of recommendations by cultivators and he will visit to all provincial divisions in this regard to collect inputs from cultivators and experts.
Minister Bilal Yasin chairing a meeting of peasants coming from Rawalpindi said his government planned to give due representation to farmers in all agricultural policies, including procurement of wheat, and the Punjab chief minister intended to extend more relief and facilities for them.
Farmers said they were happy with his government’s efforts to buy wheat for Rs 1,300 per 40kg though it is being bought at just Rs 1,050 in open market and lauded the chief minister’s efforts for the wheat export. District co-ordination and executive district officers of agriculture in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal also briefed about provision of bardana (gunny bags) to the farmers and the wheat procurement in their respective areas.
Those also present were Rawalpindi Acting Commissioner Sajid Zafar Dall, District Co-ordination and Executive District Officers of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal Iftikhar Malik, Shavaiz Khan and Lala Khan and Food Deputy Director Sherjeel Mirza.
