Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the Punjab government to immediately start wheat procurement as new crop of different districts in South of the province had already reached the market causing crash in the price.
KBP Secretary General Malik Muhammad Raman Rohari while talking to a five member delegation of growers from Southern Punjab said that wheat of Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and other districts had already reached the market but the Punjab government was yet to start distribution of gunny bags to farmers for procurement. They said a big quantity of wheat was lying in the fields under open sky creating fear of its spoil.
He also alleged that although the government support price for wheat procurement was Rs 1300 per maund but middle men, arhtis and flour millers were fleecing the growers by paying Rs 1000 to 1150. ‘It seemed that the government was deliberately delaying the procurement so as its blue-eyed boys in flour milling lobbies could feather their nests,’ he said.
Kisan Board Pakistan leader said that Southern Punjab’s growers had already been exploited but the government was playing the role of a silent spectator.
