ISLAMABAD – Palm oil import in the country during eleven months of financial year 2015-16 was reduced by 3.04 percent as compared to corresponding period of last year.
According the data of PBS, during the period from July-May 2015-16, about 2,520,323 metric tons of palm oil valuing $1.54b was imported to fulfill the domestic requirements.
Palm oil import in the country was recorded at 2,118,533 metric tons worth $1.59b in eleven months of last financial year (2014-15).
Meanwhile, import of milk cream and milk food for infants also decreased by 5.46 percent in eleven months of financial year 2015-16, the PBS data showed.
About 75,004 metric tons of the above mentioned commodity was imported during 11 months costing $244.
87 million as compared to import of 80,480 metric tons valuing $259.011 million.
Import of wheat unmilled in the country also registered 100 percent decrease as zero quantity of wheat was imported during the period under review.
It may be recalled that about 586,595 metric tons of wheat unmilled worth $185.43 million were imported during eleven months of last year (2014-15).
It may be recalled that overall food group import in the country registered an increase of 7.10 percent during eleven months of last financial year as food commodities worth $4.873 billion were imported.
The import of food group was recorded at $4.54 billion during July-May 2014-15.
