ISLAMABAD: Farmers were assured on Friday that the government would not allow imports of fruits and vegetables from neighbouring countries as long as local commodities were available in the market.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of a training course for skill development of Balochistan farmers at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan said the interest of farmers was government’s priority.
Highlighting the importance of water, the minister said development of reservoirs and dams in Balochistan was need of the hour.
“After the 18th Amendment, resources have been shifted to the provincial governments and they need to take measures to build such facilities,” he added.
The minister said the federal government would assist in building dams, adding: “However it is the duty of provincial governments to take initiatives in this direction.”
The federal minister said the provinces had adequate funds to build such facilities.
