LAHORE – Provincial excise and taxation minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman on Tuesday inaugurated the two-day fifth Pakistan Food & Agri Expo 2016, co-sponsored by the Punjab government, held at Expo Centre.
The highlight of the two-day event included one-day conference on the first day of the exhibition titled “Economic growth through agriculture and value addition”.
The expo brought together key domestic and international players like farmers, land owners, agricultural investors, government officials, agents, distributors and exporters on a single platform to explore new technologies and innovations in the food and agriculture sector.
Among dozens of stall holders, Atomic Energy Commission of Pakistan’s agricultural wing, Punjab Agri Department, USAID and various agriculture associations also established their stalls in the exhibition, which remained open from 11am to 7pm.
Eminent speakers discussed the importance of harnessing the potential of nature and science with regards to the prevalent agriculture practices in Pakistan. Several imperative agriculture issues were discussed, which need to be undertaken to ensure best practices in all fields of agriculture.
Basmati growers Association chairman Hamid Malhi, who also set up stall in the exhibition, said that exhibition provides an opportunity to access the potential of Pakistan’s agricultural market and empowers the key players and participants to understand the market appetite for their products and recognize the best channels for delivery.
Various stalls at the venue were a great source of information for the farmers and all those who visited the stall. Technical experts were present to address the concerns of the farmers and guidance was extended with regards to the usage of new agri-technology.
