Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food, Qalandar Lodhi has asked the owners of sugar mills for starting crushing season as thousands of the people depending on the sector and is a mean of income for them. He was presiding over a special meeting of Peshawar Sugarcane Control Board here in his office on Wednesday.
Besides, MPA Mahmood Jan, Nazim Town-II, Faridullah Khan, Secretary Food, Sahibzada Fazal Amin, Director Food, Anwar Khan and president, Sugar Mills Association, Abdul Qadir Khattak, sugar growers from the province attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed in detail problems faced by sugarcane growers and provision of subsidy to mill owners by the provincial government. The provincial minister urged the sugar millers for payment of the price of sugarcane to farmers during the same crushing season. He said that sugarcane is the cash crop for growers.
He said that the provincial government is aware of the problems faced by the sugar mills in the selling of their commodity and in this connection, the government will provide all possible cooperation.
The provincial minister also urged the sugar millers for guaranteeing equality in the price of sugarcane in other provinces. Similarly, he said that sugar mills will be reciprocated with provision of incentives in proportion to other provinces of the country.
