0.8 million tonnes of urea imported, National Assembly told

Federal Government has imported 0.8 million tons urea to fill the gap between demand and supply for Rabi 2011-12. “The government has given Rs 32 billion as subsidy on urea while overall Rs 50 billion subsidy has been given to the farmers. The dollar managed to retain its upward trend against the rupee on the currency market on Monday, dealers said. As a result of strong demand for dollar, the rupee lost 12 for buying at 90.52 and shed 10 paisa for selling at 90.54, they said. Sugar procurement: TCP pays over Rs 7 billion to 29 mills

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has made payment of over Rs 7 billion to 29 mills against procurement of sugar to ease their financial problems regarding payment for sugarcane to the growers.Sources told Business Recorder on Monday that so far TCP has completed procurement process of 0.15 million tons of sugar from domestic mills and, after getting Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) testing reports and physical charge of procured sugar, TCP has started payment to the sugar mills, [...]

Punjab government sells over 700,000 metric tons of wheat

The Punjab food department sold over 700,000 metric tons (MT) of wheat till end of January 2012 out of the wheat stock of 2009-10 season, while 3.4 million tons of wheat is still lying in its godown. Japan to provide Rs 8.3 million for irrigation scheme

The government of Japan has decided to extend financial support of $96,660 (approximately Rs 8.3 million) to NGO RORWALI for the construction of Concrete Irrigation Channel in Village Thakhtabad, Peshawar, said a press release issued here on Monday. Reduction in ST on tractors notified

The federal government has notified the reduction in sales tax on tractors from 16 percent to 5 percent with immediate effect. Agriculture university: 191 students to get Rs3.1 million grant

Members also discussed signing an MOU between the university and FDT for 10 years to provide schooling to 500 students. Fertiliser price hike due to suspension of gas supply: minister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh has said that owing to suspension of gas supply to urea factories, a crisis was created, leading to price hike of this important input. Spot rate lowered to Rs 5,700 amid modest business on cotton market

Spot rate was slashed on the cotton market on Tuesday amid modest trading, dealers said. The official spot rate was lowered by Rs 100 to Rs 5,700, they said. Prices of seedcotton in Sindh were at Rs 1800-2450 and in the Punjab at Rs 2000-2750, they said.
