Kinnow exports may worth $200 million

Kinnow exports are destined to fetch $200 million this year as exports are expected to surpass previous year’s target, the reason being that commercial prices seem to be a bit on the average side, according to Ahmad Jawad, CEO of Harvest Trading. However, it will be confirmed at the time of price negotiation, he told Business Recorder on Wednesday. He, however, pointed out that due to lack of adequate facilities and proper training of picking and packing, every year the [...]

Strategy to be formed for boosting kinnow exports

The government must discourage private sector from exporting country’s prized fruits, i.e. Kinnow and mangoes to commissioned markets where the return is minimal. Ahmad Jawad, Chief Executive Officer, Harvest Trading (HT) told that government must concentrate on countries like Australia, Japan, Turkmenistan, Sudan and Iraq who offer a huge market for the export of these fruits. These countries have big potential but have remained un- exploited due to the negligence and weak policies of the public sector, he said. He [...]

Pakistan, which has fixed almost 0.2 million tons export of Kinnow this year, has started export as first consignment of 390 tons was shipped to Sri Lanka and Dubai on Saturday. For the first time, the export of highly valued fruit has started on a fixed date as Ministry of Commerce had earlier banned export of the Citrus Hybrid (Kinnow) before December 1. Through a S.R.O 1362(1)/2012, issued on November 8, 2012, the ministry, while making amendments in clauses/rules of [...]

Season for kinnow exports November 19, 2012 7:55 am

Season for kinnow exports

Kinnow exports will begin from December 1 and exporters are confident that they can meet the target of 200,000 tonnes that matches last year’s performance. Their optimism is based on higher production — 1.9 million tonnes this year against last year’s 1.8 million tonnes — and the possibility of increased exports to India and Indonesia. Traditionally, only 10 per cent of citrus fruits produced in the country are exported for various reasons including huge post-harvest losses of up to 40 [...]

Experts link kinnow industry growth with removal of middlemen

Horticulture experts have linked growth of the kinnow industry to the removal of middleman saying that exports of the citrus fruit could be enhanced manifold provided the farmers are provided direct benefit. At present Pakistan is among the top 10 citrus growing countries in the world and the world export market for horticulture products is about $80 billion, in which Pakistan’s share is not up to mark. The kinnow exports reached to $100 million in the fiscal year 2010-11,” Chief [...]
